Family Portraits in Northern Ireland: Award‑Winning Studio Photography in Lurgan

Family life moves fast. Kids grow, grandparents’ stories deepen, and the everyday moments you think you’ll remember forever can blur with time. A professional family portrait session freezes that chapter—beautifully, honestly, and in a way your phone camera simply can’t.
If you’re looking for family portraits in Northern Ireland (or you’re travelling from the Republic of Ireland), here’s why choosing an award‑winning photographer and a purpose‑built studio makes all the difference.

Prices from £100

Includes 1 hour studio time, editing and 30 min viewing session to choose your photos and four 7×5 prints or two 10×8 prints. Digital images and framed prints are also available.

Why family portraits matter (more than you think)

A great family portrait isn’t just “a nice photo.” It becomes:
  • A visual record of your family’s story
  • A gift for grandparents (and future generations)
  • Artwork for your home that makes you feel something every day
  • A reminder of connection during busy seasons of life
Years from now, you won’t care if the kids’ hair wasn’t perfect—you’ll care that you captured who you were together.
What “award‑winning” actually means for your family photos
Awards aren’t about ego. They’re a signal that your photographer has been judged by professionals on the things that matter:
  • Light and composition that flatter every age
  • Consistent quality (not just one lucky image)
  • Storytelling and emotion—the part that makes portraits feel real
  • Technical reliability so you can relax and enjoy the session
When you’re investing in family portraits, you want confidence that the final images will be strong enough to print large, frame proudly, and pass down.

The advantage of a purpose‑built family portrait studio
A purpose‑built studio is designed for comfort, calm, and great light—especially important if you’re bringing toddlers, babies, or multiple generations.
In a dedicated studio environment you get:
  • Beautiful, controlled lighting (no squinting, harsh shadows, or weather worries)
  • A relaxed pace so children can settle in and be themselves
  • A comfortable space for feeding, changing, and breaks
  • Consistent results across family groups, sibling portraits, and individual shots
If you’ve ever tried to get a “quick photo” at home and ended up stressed, you’ll feel the difference immediately.
A family portrait experience designed to feel easy
Most families worry about one thing: “Will the kids behave?”
The truth is, the best portraits don’t come from perfect behaviour—they come from a photographer who knows how to guide you gently and keep things natural.
A great session includes:
  • Simple direction (so you never feel awkward)
  • Time for real moments—laughs, cuddles, and little interactions
  • Options for different groupings (whole family, siblings, parents with each child, grandparents)
  • A calm, unhurried approach that helps everyone relax

Who these studio family portraits are perfect for
Family portraits aren’t one-size-fits-all. Studio sessions are ideal for:
  • Young families with toddlers who need a warm, structured environment
  • Newborn and baby milestones (with a gentle, baby‑led approach)
  • Three‑generation portraits with grandparents
  • First birthdays and “the year went too fast” moments
  • Graduations, communions, and big life changes
If you’ve been thinking “we should do this,” that’s usually your sign.
What to wear for family portraits (simple guidance)
You don’t need matching outfits. You need harmony.
A few easy tips:
  • Choose 2–3 complementary colours across the family
  • Avoid large logos and heavy patterns
  • Keep textures simple (knits, linen, denim work well)
  • Bring one backup outfit for little ones (just in case)
If you’re unsure, I’ll help you plan outfits that photograph beautifully.

Newborn Baby Portraits in Northern Ireland (NI): Calm, Beautiful Photos in a Purpose-Built Studio

Those first days are a blur — tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and the kind of quiet moments you don’t realise you’ll miss until they’ve passed. Newborn baby portraits are a way to hold onto that season, with photographs that feel natural, timeless, and truly your family.
If you’re searching for a newborn photographer in Northern Ireland, I’d love to welcome you to my purpose-built studio at Rose Cottage Studio, Lurgan, designed for comfort, calm, and beautiful light.

Prices from £100

Includes 1 hour studio time, editing and 30 min viewing session to choose your photos and four 7×5 prints or two 10×8 prints. Digital images and framed prints are also available.

Why book newborn baby portraits?
Newborn sessions aren’t just about “cute photos” (though you’ll absolutely get those). They’re about:
  • Capturing your baby’s tiny details before they change
  • Creating heirloom images for your home and for future generations
  • Celebrating your new family — including siblings and parents
  • Freezing a moment in time you’ll never get back
Many parents tell me they feel exhausted and overwhelmed in the early days. That’s normal — and it’s exactly why a studio session can be such a gift. You can relax, slow down, and let me take care of everything.
A purpose-built newborn photography studio in Lurgan
My studio is set up specifically for portrait photography, with a calm pace and a comfortable environment for new parents and babies.
You’ll find:
  • A warm, cosy space (newborns love warmth)
  • Soft, flattering lighting for natural-looking portraits
  • A relaxed, unhurried approach with plenty of time for feeds and settling
  • A private, comfortable setting for parents
Because the studio is purpose built, everything is designed around one thing: creating beautiful portraits while keeping your baby safe, comfortable, and settled.

Award-winning photography experience you can trust
When you’re choosing a newborn photographer, experience matters — not just with cameras, but with people.
I’ve been a professional photographer for over 25 years, and I’m proud to be one of the most awarded photographers in Northern Ireland, with 7 UK photography titles across wedding, fashion, beauty, press, and creative portrait work.
Awards don’t matter for their own sake — but they do reflect a consistent standard of quality, creativity, and professionalism. When you book your newborn baby portraits with me, you’re choosing an experienced photographer who knows how to create flattering, natural images in any situation.
When is the best time for newborn portraits?
The ideal time for traditional sleepy newborn portraits is usually within the first 5–14 days. That said, every baby is different — and every family’s recovery is different.
If your baby is a little older, don’t worry. You can still have a beautiful session with more open-eyed moments, stretches, and natural interaction.
If you’re currently expecting, it’s worth booking early — newborn slots are limited so I can keep the schedule calm and flexible.

What happens during a newborn session?

My approach is gentle, patient, and baby-led.
A typical newborn portrait session includes:
  • Time to settle in and get comfortable
  • A mix of baby-only portraits and family images
  • Simple, timeless styling that keeps the focus on your baby
  • Plenty of breaks for feeding, changing, and cuddles
You don’t need to worry about your baby “behaving” — newborn sessions are designed around real life.
Newborn portraits with parents and siblings
Some of the most meaningful images are the ones that show connection — the way you hold your baby, the way an older sibling leans in, the quiet pride on a parent’s face.
If you’d like family portraits included, we’ll keep it simple and natural. I’ll guide you gently so you never feel awkward or posed.
Serving families across Northern Ireland
The studio is based in Lurgan, and I regularly photograph families from:
  • Lurgan
  • Craigavon
  • Portadown
  • Armagh
  • Lisburn
  • Belfast
  • Newry
  • Banbridge
  • Across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
If you’ve been searching for newborn baby portraits near me and want a calm, professional experience, you’re in the right place.

How to book your newborn baby portrait session
Newborn sessions are best booked in advance (ideally during pregnancy), then we confirm the exact date once your baby arrives.
To enquire about availability, pricing, and what to expect, get in touch and tell me:
  1. Your due date (or baby’s date of birth)
  1. Where you’re travelling from
  1. Whether you’d like family and sibling portraits included
Ready to create something you’ll treasure?
If you’d like newborn baby portraits in Northern Ireland in a calm, purpose-built studio, with an award-winning photographer, I’d love to help you create images you’ll be proud to hang on your walls — and pass down for years.

Darver Castle Wedding - Orla & Steven

A Sunset Proposal and a Perfect Day: Órla & Steven’s Darver Castle Wedding

Some love stories unfold slowly, building from online chats to lakeside meetings to mountaintop proposals. For Órla and Steven, their journey from that first meeting at Camlough Lake to their wedding day at Darver Castle was filled with laughter, love, and all their favourite things.

From Camlough Lake to Forever
Órla, a primary school special education teacher from Newtownhamilton, Co. Armagh, and Steven, an operations officer from Banbridge, spent a few weeks chatting online before finally meeting face to face one Easter Sunday evening at Camlough Lake. Six years later, they would say “I do” surrounded by all their favourite people.
A Mountaintop Moment
The proposal came during that limbo week between Christmas and New Year’s—a time when the world feels suspended between celebrations. Steven suggested they walk up Kilbroney mountain to see the big stone, and despite Órla running late (as usual), they began their climb as the sun started to set.
“Steven was eagerly climbing with me somewhat a few steps behind,” Órla recalls with a laugh. As they reached the summit with the sun painting the sky, Steven told her he had one last Christmas present—and got down on one knee against the backdrop of the setting sun.

Finding ‘The One’ at Petticoat Lane
When it came time to find her wedding dress, Órla visited Petticoat Lane in Hillsborough with no clear idea of what style she wanted. Enter Paula, the consultant who would change everything.
“Paula was amazing,” Órla remembers. “She was the one who said, ‘I have a dress I think you should try.’ And that was the one.”
The moment was unforgettable. “When I first walked out in the dress, everyone had tears in their eyes and it was the first time I felt like a bride.”
Órla praises the entire experience at Petticoat Lane: “The ladies were so helpful and supportive. I really felt listened to and they were honest about how dresses would fit my shape.”
Planning Their Perfect Day
For Órla and Steven, wedding planning was about creating a day filled with their favourite things, hoping everyone else would love them too. “We loved planning all of it,” they share.
The most challenging part? “It was hard at times juggling wedding planning, building a house and working. But I wouldn’t change any of it.”

A Day That Felt Like Them
On 16th July 2025, Órla and Steven married at St. Michael’s Church in Newtownhamilton, followed by a reception at the stunning Darver Castle.
“The day was amazing, we couldn’t have asked for a better day,” the couple beams. “It was nice, chilled and ran smoothly just as we like to be in our everyday lives. It was wonderful to see all our favourite people gathered together, especially those who made the journey to travel home.”
Comfortable in Front of the Camera
Working with photographer Simon (from Ciaran O’Neill Photography) was a natural choice—he had photographed Órla’s brother’s wedding in 2018. “I remember how comfortable you made everyone feel and how wonderful the photos turned out, so we couldn’t imagine anyone else capturing us on our day too,” Órla explains.
For a couple who “don’t do photos,” they were pleasantly surprised. “Simon made us feel so comfortable, he was amazing especially with our crazy families,” they laugh. “We enjoyed them all, especially once we got the hang of the lingo. Simon made us feel so comfortable from the start it was easy to forget that we were even posing.”
Favourite Captured Moments
When asked about their favourite photographs, both Órla and Steven had clear answers:
Órla’s favourite: “It’s hard to tell as we’ve only had a sneak peek, but I’m excited to see how our photos under the archway turn out. I also love the photo with my parents at the doors of the chapel. It really captures us as we are, always laughing and messing with each other.”
Steven’s favourite: “I like the photo at the top of the aisle where you catch Órla giving me her ‘well’ look when we first see each other. I also like the photo where we are coming down the aisle as husband and wife.”

Dancing to Fleetwood Mac
For their first dance, Órla and Steven chose “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac—a timeless classic that perfectly captured the feeling of finding your person.

A Day of Smooth Sailing
The day went remarkably smoothly, with only one minor hiccup: the best man’s bow tie was missing a clip. But Steven’s father Frank quickly came to the rescue with a clever solution, manipulating a key ring to make it stay in place. Problem solved!

Words of Wisdom
Órla and Steven’s advice for couples planning their wedding is simple and heartfelt:
“Do what makes you happy. Everyone is there for you, so as long as you’re happy they’ll be too.”
A Greek Getaway
After their perfect day, Órla and Steven jetted off to Rhodes, Greece, for their honeymoon—the ideal way to begin their married life together.
From an Easter evening at Camlough Lake to a sunset proposal on Kilbroney mountain, from tears at Petticoat Lane to laughter at Darver Castle, Órla and Steven’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of who they are—relaxed, genuine, and surrounded by love. Their day was filled with all their favourite things and all their favourite people, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Congratulations to Órla and Steven! Thank you for trusting us to capture your special day, just as we did for your brother’s wedding in 2018.

From Best Friends to Forever: Georgia & Turlough’s Lurgan Golf Club Wedding

Bride under her veil in Lurgan Park by Ciaran O'Neill

Some love stories begin with a spark. Others begin with friendship. For Georgia and Turlough, it was the latter—a connection that started at a wedding in 2018 and blossomed into a love that would last a lifetime.
A Friendship That Became Forever
Georgia from Derrymacash and Turlough, a classroom assistant from Belfast, met at a wedding seven years before their own special day. “We have been best friends since,” Turlough explains. “We have pretty much grown up together.”
After years of friendship and love, Turlough knew exactly where to propose. He chose the stunning Silver Strand in Delphi, County Mayo—a long, beautiful beach where he asked Georgia to be his wife. It was the perfect setting for the beginning of their next chapter.

Finding the Perfect Dress

But through it all, they kept their focus on what mattered most—celebrating their love with the people who meant the most to them.
A Perfect June Day
On 19th June 2025, Georgia and Turlough tied the knot at St Patrick’s Derrymacash, followed by an intimate reception for five at Lurgan Golf Club.
“Our wedding day was perfect,” the couple beams. “Everyone said they had a lovely time and the food was amazing.”
The day was blessed with gorgeous weather, making their photo session in Lurgan Park a surreal and beautiful experience. “We were so blessed with gorgeous weather,” they remember.

A Morning to Remember
The day didn’t start without a bit of drama, though. On the morning of the wedding, Turlough was driving to his house to get ready when disaster nearly struck. “I blew a tire after a piece of masonry fell off a quarry truck and hit my car,” he recalls. But even this unexpected hiccup couldn’t dampen the joy of the day ahead.

Captured Moments
Working with photographer Simon (from Ciaran O’Neill Photography) was a highlight of the day. “Simon absolutely helped us enjoy our day and relax,” the couple says. “He was always telling us to just enjoy because it goes past so quickly. He has a great sense of humour.”
The couple chose Ciaran O’Neill Photography because of their “stellar reputation as fantastic photographers,” and they weren’t disappointed.
When asked about their favourite photograph, Georgia and Turlough didn’t hesitate: “The photos of us meeting at the top of the aisle are our favourite. It’s nice to see captured the moment we spent so much time planning and stressing over.”
Dancing Into Forever
For their first dance, Georgia and Turlough chose “I’ll Be Here in the Morning” by Townes Van Zandt—a beautiful, heartfelt song that perfectly captured their commitment to one another.

Words of Wisdom
After their perfect day, Georgia and Turlough have some advice for couples planning their own weddings:
“We would say just relax and enjoy the day for what it is. You can’t control everything. It’s all worth it on the day.”
It’s advice born from experience—from a blown tire on the morning of the wedding to the stress of invitations, they learned that the unexpected moments don’t define the day. What matters is the love you’re celebrating and the people you’re celebrating with.
A Greek Adventure
After their beautiful wedding day, Georgia and Turlough jetted off to Rhodes, Greece, for their honeymoon—the perfect way to begin their married life together.
From best friends to husband and wife, Georgia and Turlough’s wedding was a celebration of a love that grew naturally over seven years. Their day at St Patrick’s Derrymacash and Lurgan Golf Club was filled with sunshine, laughter, genuine emotion, and all the beautiful moments that make a wedding truly unforgettable.

Congratulations to Georgia and Turlough! Thank you for trusting us to capture your special day.

Manor House Hotel - Shirley & Aaron

Love, Laughter, and a Proposal in the Sand: Shirley & Aaron’s Manor House Wedding

When Shirley and Aaron swiped right on Tinder back in September 2022, neither could have imagined that their first date would be the beginning of forever. Two years and seven months later, on 3rd May 2025, they tied the knot at Lower Clonaneese Presbyterian Church, followed by a stunning reception at The Manor House.
A Love Story Written in the Sand
Shirley, a customer service representative from Cabragh, and Aaron, a gardener from Omagh, went on their first date on 24th September 2022. “From that day, we have been inseparable,” Shirley recalls with a smile.
Fast forward to 3rd December 2023—Shirley’s birthday. Aaron took her for a drive to Muckross near Kesh, one of the very first places they visited together. As they walked down by the water, Shirley discovered something magical: Aaron had written “will you marry me” in the sand. He got down on one knee, ring in hand, and asked the question that would change their lives forever.
“Obviously I said yes,” Shirley laughs. The moment became even more special when Aaron revealed he’d asked her father for her hand in marriage five weeks earlier—a secret her dad had kept perfectly.

Finding ‘The One’ at White House Bridal
Shirley’s dress journey began with a stroke of luck. After attending a wedding fair at The Manor House in Enniskillen, she won a £200 voucher for White House Bridal in Fivemiletown—a shop she hadn’t even heard of before.
On 2nd March 2024, after visiting two other bridal boutiques, Shirley booked an appointment at White House Bridal. “I fell in love with a dress that day and said ‘Yes To The Dress,'” she remembers. “Amanda really made me feel at ease. I was a complete open book when it came to dresses, so she tried all different styles on me. I would definitely recommend White House Bridal to other brides.”
A Day of Pure Joy
The wedding day itself was nothing short of perfect. “The day went absolutely amazingly. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I just wish I could do it all again,” Shirley says.
The couple loved every moment of their photo session, especially the shots taken down by the water at The Manor House. “We enjoyed it all, especially the craic between Ciaran and Bob our videographer,” Shirley recalls. “From the get-go when you arrived at the house, the craic was good. You definitely made me feel at ease, and we hardly knew you were there!”
For two people who admittedly don’t love getting their photo taken, Shirley and Aaron were thrilled with the results. “I have way too many favourites to be honest. All the photos were beautiful.”

Memorable Moments
The day was filled with laughter and love, including a few unforgettable moments:
  • Their page boy falling asleep during the ceremony (caught perfectly on camera!)
  • The best man pretending not to have the rings when the minister asked for them
  • Their first dance to Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”

Words of Wisdom
When asked what advice they’d give to other couples planning their wedding, Shirley’s response is heartfelt and practical:
“I would say not to stress too much. Take everything in your stride. There will be little hiccups on the day, but honestly none of them will mean a thing as the most important thing is that you’re getting married and starting the rest of your life with the one you love.”
The couple’s approach to planning reflected this philosophy. “We both had a lot of input in everything we planned, and it was good to have each other to make the decisions,” Shirley explains. “The best part was the excitement of it all—visiting different venues and booking the different vendors that were potentially going to make our day perfect.”

Happily Ever After
After their perfect day, Shirley and Aaron jetted off to Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote for their honeymoon, ready to begin the next chapter of their love story.
From a Tinder match to a proposal written in sand, from saying “yes to the dress” to saying “I do,” Shirley and Aaron’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of a love that was meant to be. Their day at The Manor House was filled with natural joy, genuine emotion, and all the heartfelt moments that make a wedding truly unforgettable.

Congratulations to Shirley and Aaron! Thank you for letting us be part of your incredible day.
